With the new lighting system of the studio, ARRI brings a lot of knowledge and a significant contribution to the performance of the studio.
The volumetric studio is a great showcase project. It has enormous economic potential. This technology can be used far beyond the media industry, for example in the health and automotive industries.
The Volucap is the only company that meets our high requirements to use our novel technology. The Volucap sets new standards for volumetric recordings of animated people to create holographic content.
For us, that means a significant step into the future of the film. This studio technology sets the basis for new narrative forms that will revolutionize cinema and also the entire media production in a few years.
We are happy to write history again in the oldest film studio in the world and to produce high-quality walk-in film on the European continent for the first time.
Unlike computer-generated characters, actors can emotionally articulate and physically portray the actions described in the script. I am very pleased that it is now possible to bring this indispensable aspect into innovative VR/AR projects
With the volumetric studio Volucap a piece of the future is being created for the production of digital media in Babelsberg.

We support the common industry standards and export obj sequences or alembic caches. As video textures mp4, jpeg or png sequences are created. Depending on the intended use (VR, mobile, MR, film), the data resolutions during export are reduced to ensure maximum quality.

20MP global shutter cameras with 12 Bit of raw recording. Lenses can be changed to specific requirements.

Currently we are able to reproduce the performance as it was recorded. In the near future, however, it will be possible to change the performance to generate a higher level of interaction and new movements.

We are able to place filmed subject into any AR, MR, VR, 360, or 2D video/Web application on a wide range of devices, like phones, holographic headsets and Windows Mixed Reality immersive headsets.

Yes, we are also able to capture static objects and single body poses.

Our system has been developed in a modular way and is therefore also suitable for taking larger objects. The base system is designed to accommodate objects of 3×3 meters, but we are able to extend the base system and place it in a free setup in the neighboring studio. Thus, we have the opportunity to film even larger objects.

We create 2 terabytes per minute as we film in ultra high-resolution 12-bit color space.

During the recording, you can watch the actor in ultra high definition live from almost every angle. Takes can be stopped directly and restarted without interruption. We can take as many takes as it takes to have the perfect performance captured.

We capture the actors on our stage from all angles. Intelligent software algorithms then use these recordings to create textured and animated 3D surfaces that can then be used in any given environment.
